Deconstructing The Secrets of Health Coaching

Today there’s a coach for every possible area of our lives. Coaches for life, career, finances, fitness, accountability, health and wellness - how’s that for an endless & confusing list? It confuses me and I am a coach! Today I’m breaking down Holistic Health Coaching, to empower you with understanding of what it looks and feels like in real life to have a coach by your side.

Disclaimer: Don’t take it from me, be sure to read to the bottom to read the client success story. Her honestly, vulnerability and kind words are not to be missed!

Let’s start out with a quick quiz, don’t worry no one will see your answers! Can you answer yes to any of the questions below?

  • I wish I could stick to my goals once and for all

  • I wish I knew how to make eating healthy simpler in my busy life

  • I wish I could feel less stressed and overwhelmed

  • I wish I could improve my sleep

  • I wish I could find a way to prioritize self-care in my crazy schedule

  • I wish I could have someone hand me resources to avoid the pain and agony of searching the internet

  • I wish I better understood my own motivations

  • I wish someone could encourage positive changes in my life

  • I wish someone could hold me accountable to the goals I set

Yes’ aren’t a sign of weakness, or that you’re doing it wrong, it simply means you could benefit from some help along the way. We all could, no one can do it all alone! A Health Coach is an amazing way to prioritize your unique health goals, because together we can breakdown your goals, truly understanding the motivations that lie underneath. Also focusing on tiny micro-goals, encouraging you to feel small wins frequently, and therefore achieving true success of shifting your goals from dreamy ideas to reality.

Now that you have a picture of a partnership could look like, let’s chat about the lingering big questions on your mind. It’s natural for doubt to sneak in, and question if true change could ever really happen. Let me bust the 3 most common fears right now!

How dare I take time to focus on myself when I can barely meet all my other obligations & commitments?

You can’t pour from an empty cup. Cliche but 100% true. It’s impossible to show up and give to others, if our own needs aren’t met. It’s not selfish to prioritize yourself, and I’d argue it’s selfish not to prioritize your own needs. If you don’t stand up for yourself, and give your goals and dreams a voice, no one else is going to do that for you. Is it easy to say, no? Is it easy to do, no? But is it worth the investment when you start showing up differently for the ones you love most - a resounding YES!

Cooking at home is miserable, time consuming and complicated. Healthy dinners really mean two meals, one for adults & one for kids. Cooking is a frustrating waste of time and energy!

Did you grow up cooking? Were you taught to cook by your family? The most common answer here is no, but despite that answer people expect to be able to bring delicious and nutritious meals to life. Unrealistic much? We wouldn’t expect to be able to run a marathon without months of training. Why would we think we could step into the kitchen and instantly understand how to cook? Confidence is key in the kitchen, feeling comfortable knowing how to pair a few simple ingredients together to create a handful of go-to recipes. Ones that you can cook in limited time and will feed your whole crew without complaint (or minimal complaints, if we’re being realistic). To gain confidence you need resources and encouragement that you may have never received, and with that I truly believe anyone can enjoy cooking. But thinking it should come naturally, without any guidance, recommendations or support, is just not reality.

Everyone else has the juggle all figured out, why can’t I?

Social Media has a not-so-lovely way of painting a glossy beautiful picture of people’s lives, and showing a very small filter of reality. Behind that picture of a beautiful gourmet home-cooked meal is likely a hysterical screaming child and a room covered in toys, books and unfolded laundry. Comparison is the root of all unhappiness. The moment we start gauging our success based on how it relates to others, is when our joy and happiness retreats. Instead take the time and space to focus inward, look at your values and evaluate your life. You’re the only one that knows this view, what your life truly looks and feels like, and that has to be the starting point. Finding goals that sync with your core values, and devoting your energy to your unique needs, that’s where true happiness lives.

As I said in the beginning, instead of taking it from me, I’d rather share the words of an amazing client with you. Here are her beautiful words sharing the impact she received from our Holistic Health Coaching program.

“I had the pleasure of working with Kris this past year, after my husband was diagnosed with cancer, and I found myself sinking lower into an overwhelmed depression. I was eating unhealthy, was very irritable, and didn’t know how to stop it. I reached out to Kris at Deconstructing Wellness and she was so warm and friendly, I felt completely comfortable telling her all that was happening in my life and where I was struggling. She had great advice, gave me small, digestible ideas to incorporate into my daily routine, as well as help me focus on what areas of my life I was neglecting. It was wonderful to have a partner to check in with every few weeks to help keep me accountable. Kris had great suggestions for healthy, family friendly recipes, working out at my own pace, mindfulness exercises my entire family can do, and helped me to reconnect with myself and my loved ones. She gently pulled me out of my rut, and taught me great tools that myself and my family will use for our lifetime. I highly recommend Kris Rice at Deconstructing Wellness! She changed my life for the better, and I wouldn’t be where I am today without her guidance and support.” - Kelly Simpson, Holistic Health Coaching Client
