There are times when I just feel like I'm in a funk, when I know I need a change but I can't put my finger on the problem. This usually shows up for me in the following ways. I'm short with my kids for seemly no reason. Everything seems to irritate me at work, every email is an annoyance and each time I'm interrupted I feel frustrated. I also tend to feel like I'm stuck - stuck in the same place, doing the same things and not feeling any momentum or positive change. Any of these ring true to you? If so, I can't wait to dive into today's blog with you!

Today I'm sharing with you the top ways to shift your energy in 5 minutes or less, because sometimes even 5 minutes can seem like a stretch! But I assure you Mama, you deserve this! Energy is all around us, and it's in our control to shift for the positive or negative in any given moment. I'm sure you're with me in wanting to feel more positive energy flowing in your daily routine. So if that's the case, let’s dig into my top 3 ways to shift your energy in 5 minutes or less!

Mantras

Mantras sound complicated and a little woo-woo, but really all they are is a statement of how you want to feel. They’re one of my favorite ways to positively shift my mood, because it gives the mind something else to focus on. Here’s a quick rundown of mantras 101. First, start by clearly stating how you feel. Maybe in that moment you feel overwhelmed, frustrated or fearful. Acknowledge how you feel, then think of how you want to feel. Maybe you wish you felt more ease, freedom or joy. The key is your mantra being stated as though it's already your reality. So your mantra in that moment could be "I am filled with ease and I’m surrounded by joy." If this peaks your interest, don’t forget to check out my recent blog, “Top 3 Ways Mantras Can Shift Your Mindset.”

Breathwork

Breathwork is simplicity at its best. Not only can you do it anywhere, no props required, focusing on your breath truly grounds your body. I know for myself, there ar are many times when I feel stress and anxiety in my body, and if I pay attention, I also realize I’m holding my breath - super not helpful! At it’s most basic, I recommend closing your eyes and taking 10 deep inhales and exhales. It will take less than a minute, but when you finish those 10 deep breaths your body will likely have already started to feel more grounded and at ease. There are tons of options for breathwork, and if this is a new concept to you, I highly recommend exploring Ashley Neese's book, How to Breathe. Her book is fantastic and provides simple & effective breathwork exercises to explore, depending on how you're feeling in the moment.

Movement

One of the most powerful ways to shift your energy is to simply move your body! Movement inherently creates a shift in energy. There's no need to over think it, simply ask yourself what would make your body feel good in that moment, and do it! A few of my favorites include a walk around the block, 15 minute ride on the Peloton, a quick yoga flow or stretch series or even dancing around the house to my favorite song. Truth be told, if I’m nervous I crank a favorite dance song and quite literally dance like no one is watching. It absolutely doesn't matter what you do, the point is to think of what would feel good in the moment and do it! The focus on joy, paired with physical movement can shift your mood so quickly it's really phenomenal.

I encourage you to keep these options in your back pocket, knowing that our energy levels ebb and flow throughout the day; these are just a few simple ways to support your shift to the positive.
