Top 5 Benefits of a CSA
As seen in Lake Oswego Living Magazine
How can you simplify healthy eating? Wouldn’t you like to spend less time planning and prepping, make less trips to the grocery store, all while eating locally grown organic produce? What if I said you could you do all this, while building healthy habits as a family and supporting your community - utopia, right?
All this is achievable thanks to Lake Oswego’s Luscher Farm's Summer CSA program. CSA refers to “Community Supported Agriculture.” By securing your share at the start of the season, you receive weekly assortments of vegetables for the next 6 months.
There’s an amazing feeling of community at the pickups. Highlights include visiting with the enthusiastic farmers who picked the foods, and seeing neighbors who are excited to discover their week’s options. My family strives to live a healthy lifestyle, and the CSA program has been a great way to live out our values. Let me share my top 5 reasons to take part in our local CSA program.
Top 5 Benefits of a CSA
Save Time: We all want to save time preparing healthy meals. Having a week’s worth of vegetables on hand, from making one stop, is a game-changer. Another timesaving tip - wash all the veggies when you get home. Now the ingredients for your next meal prepped and ready.
Create Healthy Habits: As parents we all want to help our kids learn what healthy habits mean. How better to demonstrate healthy habits, than to experience it together? Learning about different vegetables, being outdoors, and enjoying time together. These are all simple ways to make healthy choices together, and build long-lasting healthy habits as a family.
Fun Family Activity: With weekly pickups CSA days became a fun activity. We love the sense of community, and exploring the farm. My two daughters love it so much they’ve brought friends along (these friends still ask to join for CSA playdates)! It’s an easy way to get outside, spend time together and get your “grocery shopping” done. Win win!
Curiosity: Honestly there were times when I had no clue what I was picking up, and took a picture of the name to research later. I think this is an amazing benefit. Feel confident stepping outside your comfort zone, exploring new vegetables and recipes, with a sense of curiosity.
Say goodbye to decision fatigue: Simply arrive ready to pickup the week’s bounty, easy as that, no decisions necessary. Have confidence knowing the farmers made choices for you, selecting the best options for the given week.
