Where it all began and why I'm here
When I interact with new brands I'm always curious about the story behind the company. What made it all happen, why did it come to be, and who loved an idea enough to pour their heart & soul into it? So I here's a little glimpse behind the scenes into my story.
My passion for wellness started at eight years-old. It wasn’t because I was a star athlete – actually I was far from that. My passion with wellness started with my Grandma. When I was eight, I began going with her to her exercise classes. Was it a unique way to spend time with my her? Yes. While most of my friends did crafts or games, Grandy (her chosen more youthful name for Grandma) and I made our own path, and loved every minute of it.
She would proudly parade me around her gym, and I was right there by her side, eager to be a part of the workouts. And while it was a workout that we did, something much more special and transformative was actually happening. First-hand, I observed an incredible, close-knit community. What started as her “gym friends” quickly turned into something so much more. She’d bake her friends treats to enjoy after class, was well versed in their life stories and they each offered the others support and caring. At an early age, this instilled in me the importance of a nurturing community, and decades later I have dedicated myself to re-creating this in my life – and sharing that special connectedness with others.
Beyond my workout classes with Grandy, I was never an athlete growing up. It wasn’t for lack of trying, it simply was never a good fit. Here’s the real honest story. While hoping to play volleyball my senior year in high school, for the simple reason of enjoying time with my friends, I was informed by the coach that I was there sheerly “by default” because they weren’t able to put my on the JV team as a senior. They’d prefer I not be on the team, but felt badly telling me that playing wasn’t an option. That was a pivotal moment that has impacted my life and the way I approach movement. For years I let it define me, questioning why I’d try a new exercise, feeling I was clearly not an athletic person. However, 20 years later I’m here to proclaim my coach was wrong! I’m an athlete in my own right and so much stronger & confident today because I let my own curiosity, perseverance and interests guide me. As we hear in the media, there’s an athlete inside all of us, and it took me years to realize this truth.
Did I love my first yoga class? No. But 10 years later I found practices of yoga I adore. Did I love to run? No, and to be honest, I still don’t – but I stopped telling myself that I need to love the act of running, and instead embraced the aspects of the activity that bring me joy. Being outside in nature, soaking up beautiful surroundings, and enjoying time to connect with a friend. That’s what I loved about running. So instead of the fast pace of a run, I seek out a walk or hike, where I can keep the aspects I want and leave those that don’t serve me. Pursue what lights you up inside, and this will transform your outlook on so many areas of your life.
All of these life experiences have brought me to this point, where I’m seeking with all my heart & soul, to create a company that will simplify the vast and confusing world of health & wellness. I am endlessly curious about this industry, and thrive on feeding myself new research and theories (just ask my kids, who are subjected to podcasts in the car, but don’t share my love for the inspiration). I grew up being taught to seek a career that never feels like work, and with Holistic Health Coaching the stars have aligned. Unknowingly I’ve been “health coaching” for years with my own closest loved ones, and now I’m thrilled to expand my knowledge, encouragement & support to others.
I’ve told you my story, now it’s your turn, what’s been your wellness journey so far? I’d like to hear your honest take on what goes smoothly, or where you’d like help. I love hearing from you!
